FSA launched a revised Food Law Code of Practice following a biannual survey

The results obtained from the Food and You 2 survey on adult consumers’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding food safety in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland prompted the FSA to review the Food Law Code of Practice. Based on the survey results related to food safety, labeling, and consumer concerns, the FSA has published a revised Code of Conduct on Food Law and a Practical Guide on Food Law.

The changes in the review that FSA implemented are the modernization of the qualification requirements through extending the list of eligible qualifications and the replacement of competency requirements with the Competency Framework where competencies are defined by activity.

These reviews will enable the competent authorities to carry out their duties more effectively and to hire professionals who will increase consumer safety by ensuring greater transparency of food products.

Furthermore, some of the subjects of the analysis were sensitive subjects, such as celiac, which demonstrated mistrust and lack of clarity in allergens information, particularly if the products were sold online.

As a result, the survey was the tool by which the FSA was able to obtain useful data that can be used to review, increase and improve food safety.
