AOAC Food Allergens Immunoassay Validation Guidelines open for public comment

AOAC International (AOAC) has announced that the draft Food Allergen Immunoassay Validation Guidance document is now available for public review and comment. This document aims to provide guidelines for validating immunoassays used in the detection of food allergens.    

The public comment period will be open for 30 days, starting from Wednesday, September 13, 2023, and closing on Friday, October 13, 2023. AOAC encourages individuals and organizations to participate by submitting their feedback during this period. The comments received will be carefully reviewed, and the document may be revised based on the feedback received, if necessary.    

When providing comments, AOAC requests that the following guidelines be followed:  
1. Specify the line number or range of line numbers in the document to which the comment applies.  
2. Provide a rationale explaining the reason for the comment and why it should be considered by the editor.  
3. Clearly indicate whether the comment is related to editorial matters, content, or disagreement.  
a. Editorial comments should aim to clarify or correct typographical errors, and suggestions for alternative wording or typographical corrections are welcome.  
b. Content-related comments should focus on technical clarity and comprehensiveness, and suggestions for appropriate technical language are encouraged. The AOAC will review the documents for technical accuracy and clarity.  
c. Disagreement comments should express a perspective on content that is either documented or undocumented in the drafts. If providing a disagreement comment, please provide language that supports your perspective or position.  
4. All comments must be submitted within 30 days of the initial posting date, with the deadline set for October 13, 2023. The AOAC editorial team will address all questions and will not accept comments received after the deadline.
