Ice cream reported contaminated with coronavirus in Tianjin – Ukrainian whey powder may be the source

Ice cream samples submitted 12 and 13 January 2021 by the Tianjin Daqiaodao Food Co., Ltd., in the northeastern Chinese city of Tianjin were found to be contaminated with SARS-CoV-2. All production at the facility has been halted and local health authorities are tracing the origins of the contamination. Workers have been quarantined and all workers that had been tested as of 15 January 2021 were COVID-19 negative.
According to local authorities, SARS-CoV-2 DNA was found in one of the two raw materials used: whey powder from Ukraine.
